sniping is pretty easy but i think that if you are a new player it would be better to start with the small machine guns first; this way you can learn about how the game and maps work. if you were to start sniping then you'd mostly be scoped-in and only in a couple places. after a while you would learn to move up and where the best places to snipe from are, but when just starting out it is a lot different. so to start off, i would choose Unteroffizer (Mp40) for the Axis, or the Master Sergeant (Thompson) for Allies, or the Sergeant Major (Sten) for the British. These are all the small machine gun classes for the 3 different teams. All of them are pretty much the same but after a while you will find that you do better and like one better than the others and that's what you should stick with until you move to rifles or heavy machine guns (BAR and STG44/Mp44 and Bren and FG42). these small machine guns are easy to use and allow for easy movement and fast firing. as far as being most accurate with these weapons it is best to go prone (in any situation), however this is not always possible, so the next best thing to do is crouch when you are firing. you can also run and fire and just stand still and fire but this can be harder and your aim has to be a little better, especially if you encounter many enemies. one thing that i find crouching helps with, is your ability to get headshots (hs). you can crouch and come around a corner and if you see a guy just aim a little higher than normal (near his face) and start firing. technically 1 bullet to the head should kill a guy but sometimes this doesnt happen so keep firing untill you see the guy is dead. otherwise it is usually about 3 or 4 hits to the body from any of these weapons. like i said, these classes allow for easy movement, so if you are in a team of like 2 or 3 then sometimes it might be best to move in or up first so that your sniper can follow or an mg too. even if you die your teammates will know what's ahead and respawn is only 20 seconds max so you can make it back to that spot relatively quickly. grenades can be tricky at first but once you figure out how to throw them properly, they can be a life-saver. even after many years of playing you may still blow yourself up quite a lot what you need to do is figure out the different heights to throw the nades to see how far they go. so i would practice trying to get them as far as possible or just into like a window. moving forward while throwing makes them go farther; jumping and throwing makes them go farther; sprinting forward and throwing makes them go far; and sprinting and jumping and throwing all at the same time makes them go even farther. one thing about grenades is that they have a 5 second explosion time limit (i think), so they blow up after 5 seconds. this is useful to know because if you have just thrown a nade and it bounces off a wall or a teammate or a door and lands near you, you know you have like 4 seconds left to get at least 20 feet away in order not to die. another reason why they are useful is that if you see an enemy throw a grenade at you and it doesnt blow up right away, you can sprint away as fast as possible to avoid being blown up. i said "doesnt blow up right away" because there is a trick with grenades where you can "prime" them so that they can blow up on contact if you time it right. priming is fairly easy, you simply throw your grenade down at the ground or against a wall and run over to it, pick it up by pressing your Use key, which is "e" by default, and then throwing it. the tricky part is timing it properly, like i said a nade blows up after 5 seconds so as soon as you throw it the time counter ticks down (5, 4, 3, 2, 1 BOOM). so you can potentially run over to a nade that has just been thrown (including an enemy's), picking it up, counting to like 3 or 4 and then throwing it. this "priming" also allows a person to suicide bomb an area, simply by throwing the nade, picking it up, and holding it until it blows up in your hand, killing you and hopefully some enemies around you. the thing with arcing a nade is cool because the physics are somewhat realistic. in real life, you throw something like a softball with more arc to get it farther than just throwing it straight. you also get it farther by running forward and tossing it. well, in DoD it works the same. try playing around with throwing grenades. i will write about sniping at another time. good luck with this stuff, i hope it helps.

right click instead of left clicking to prime nades. Left click you over hand throw. Right click you underhand throw. E picks the nade back up and 5 second fuse BOOM!

when sniping, keep an eye out for what's going on around you. look at your minimap constantly to see where people are being killed. with my minimap, i usually like to zoom it out all the way (press "L" a few times and it should zoom in and out) so that i am able to see what's going on with my teammates throughout the whole map. another thing to do is look at your teammates and find out who they are so that if you see them moving up and then they are killed by a sniper, you have a better idea of where that sniper may be (you need to have teammate player names enabled in advanced options, i think). the way im describing is the offensive style of sniping because i usually prefer to play like that however, camping in one spot can be fun too, i just dont like to do it very often. the thing about right-clicking to roll a nade is something new to me and i've been playing for 6 years now oh, one more thing: Learn the ins and outs of each and every map you play, that way you will know where the best hiding spots are, which will help you spot campers or allow you to hold that position, and you'll learn how people move through maps. good luck

I guess I could put my 2 cents in... While using any automatic guns, bursts of 4 rounds are more effective at medium range rather than letting the clip off on a player. Close quarters let it rip I suppose. I play allies when the teams allow me to, and I use BAR... People know It can be hectic on the reciol... But if you have the aim (always aim at the neck) 3 shots is all it needs. While using the BAR, or any automatic for that matter, join an empty server. Run around get to know the maps, find a "shooting range" area with small windows or cracks in the wall. Space yourself at angles and ranges that vary. Let bursts go at a specific target window or even a spot on a wall... walk up to it and see the dmg... With a burst u will see the bullets will hit in a small radius around what your hitting... The more u fire at once the bigger the radius will be, the further away you are will result in the same. learn to control recoil and know when to burst rather than Rambo it. SNIPER combat is different than most, the character modeling is different... example... If your a riflemen or any other class, peeking over a bunker or window, you will need to reveal more of your head/body to view the same amount of ground as a sniper. Basically said, the Snipers are "smaller". So If you only see the snipers elbow, he sees your shoulder and arm. Same as headshots... you see the tp of his helmet but he can see your forehead... the difference isnt a lot but there is a difference, learn to use it and you will be a better sniper... NOSCOPE shots... basically practice and some luck Stand 20feet or more from a wall... shoot. try and hit the same spot again... you will eventually learn to use the Xhairs that are not even there... obviously this isn't totally efficiant... but in panic mode it can save you form a sniper-shanker from behind u in the same room.

lol mobius you always prone with MG's. Snipers. Knapkin makes a good point bout it. I usually snipe to 3 couple different places depending on the map so the sniper won't be able scope one spot.

About sniping, if you know they are a expert player. Move, they know where the shot most likely came from. If you don't want to move, wait a minute or two after they re-spawn so that they may think your gone.
